For The Record

This really has nothing to do with anything, but I haven't posted here much lately and I'd like to have this list I made for a totally different site recorded somewhere for my posterity. It's my favourite comic book writers and artists! Yay for me, and the zero people who care!

Writers
1. Grant Morrison
2. Alan Moore
3. Stan Lee
4. Frank Miller
5. Warren Ellis
6. Bill Finger
7. John Broome
8. Dan Slott
9. Otto Binder
10. Roger Stern

Artists
1. Jack Kirby
2. John Byrne
3. Steve Ditko
4. Frank Quitely
5. John Romita
6. David Mazzuccelli
7. Frank Miller
8. Dave Gibbons
9. Mark Bagley
10. Walt Simonson

Simonson might move up that list, after I read through his run on Fantastic Four that I picked up the other day. Quite a productive shopping trip, really- 66 comics for 100 Australian dollars! Yay!
Now, so this entry isn't a complete waste, here's a funny video.

I second that. I only recognise Kirby, Lee (Stan the Man!), Miller, and Moore. However I still care.

Nice purchase, btw! If only Westlife CDs came that cheaply... *sigh*

Major props for recognising Kirby. I don't think he's as well-known to non-comics fans as guys like Stan Lee and Frank Miller, but he was arguably much more influential.
I mean, among comics fans, the dude's about as close to a God as a human being can get. But to the average man on the street, Stan Lee came up with all the good Marvel concepts.

Well... Stan Lee WAS in Mallrats... And his name DOES rhyme with 'man'.

lol. Are you shapening your pitchfork?

Stan Lee's a weird case, in that he usually gets too much credit or too little credit. It's never just right.

I love Stan (hence his place on the list! He should probably be higher than that, really), but often he's credited with the creation of characters that were in fact co-created by the artists he worked with.

For example, I was quite excited when the opening credits of 'Spider-Man' credited Steve Ditko alongside Lee, because I was worried they weren't going to.

He also didn't do much 'scripting', per se-- a fact he's always been quite honest about-- because he was the inventor of the Marvel Method, which often left much of the job of storytelling to the artist. I actually count this as a strength of Lee's... he was able to put aside his ego and fostered a collaborative effort that yielded great results.

On the other hand, elitist fans are often too quick to dismiss Lee altogther, and lay all the praise at the feet of the artists. Lee played a big role in the creation of many classic characters, and he was a hugely entertaining writer.

His complete lack of respect for the fourth wall is just unquestionably brilliant, for example.

Hurray for Grant Morrison on top. As he well should be. I mean, man bats. Ninja man bats. If that's not an alarming twist, I don't know what is.

On second thoughts, your complete omission of Geoff Johns, Bendis AND the parade-worthy Mark Waid concerns me.
